In 2015, the Friends of Murphysboro reached out to our club for volunteers to staff the entrance of their annual Big Muddy Brew Fest, and assist in the building of a Splash Pad at Longfellow Park. Since then The Friends have been sharing a percentage of the proceeds from the festival with the Kiwanis Club, which we in turn return to The Friends to go towards the Splash Pad. Here Kiwanis Club of Murphysboro President Cynthia Mill presents a check to Friends of Murphysboro President Brad Fager for the year 2017.
My Own Bookcase project is co-sponsored by the Murphysboro United Methodist Church and the Murphysboro Kiwanis Club, and our goal is to improve literacy in children in our community. This is the 4th year of the project. Student from Murphysboro Head Start who will be entering Kindergarten in the fall will receive a bookcase and a starter set of books. Each bookcase is handmade and given to the children in a special presentation ceremony in May.
If you would like to help sposor this project, you can send your donations to the Mruphysboro United Methodist Church, note, "My Own Bookcase" on the memo line and mail to 1500 Pine Street, Murphysboro, IL 62966. ...
Fun and games were played along with lots of toys for the Key Club to pass out to the children of the community.
Sallie Logan Children’s Librarian Sherry Carlock and Kiwanis Club of Murphysboro President Cynthia Mill test out new puppets, which include a Groundhog that will be used in the opening session of The library’s Spring 2018 Story Time! Fry rededicated Parkview as place for kids to run and play, for adults to sit and take in a quiet afternoon and for the entire community to enjoy.
